Brooklyn Marine Terminal: A Historic Waterfront Project

On September 22, 2025, New York City and NYCEDC announced the adoption of an ambitious plan to transform the Brooklyn Marine Terminal. This $3.5 billion project will create a modern, fully electrified maritime port, 6,000 housing units including a significant portion of affordable homes, 28 acres of public space, as well as new industrial and cultural facilities.

Approved by more than two-thirds of the BMT Task Force following a year of extensive engagement with over 4,200 community members and stakeholders, the plan now moves into environmental review, with the creation of an advisory task force to refine the plan and continue community engagement, as well as a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) to optimize port operations.

Ultimately, this vision is expected to generate over $18 billion in economic impact and tens of thousands of jobs, while strengthening resilience and innovation along New York City’s waterfront.
