Transport

Getting to Lisbon

There are many ways to get to Lisbon, and they’re all easy. The airport is just a few minutes from the city center, train stations serve international lines and several ports receive cruise ships. You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to getting into the capital. If you prefer to drive, there’s excellent access from the Spanish border in both the north and south of the country.

By plane

By plane, you land at Lisbon International Airport, less than 7 km from the city center. All major international airlines offer flights to Lisbon, which is just 3 hours’ flight from Europe’s major capitals.

To reach the city center:
Metro: “Aeoroporto” station – Red line (at terminal 1): €1.50
Public Bus (lines 5, 22, 44, 45, and 83): €2.10
Airport Shuttle (Aérobus, express 1): €4
Taxi Lx Mar: +351965713355 / Taxi-Link – Lisboa: +351212449390

Train

It’s also easy to reach the city center by train. Every day, national and international trains arrive at Santa Apolónia, a station very close to the traditional quarters and the Place du Commerce. But if you want to make your arrival a unique architectural experience, you can get off at the Gare d’Orient, whose Calatrava lines are impressive even for those who pass through every day.

Boat

Those arriving by boat can take advantage of one of the best views of Lisbon – the river – and dock at three different locations, all very close to the center. If you’re coming by cruise ship, you can dock at Alcântara, Rocha Conde de Óbidos or Santa Apolónia. If you’re coming by sailboat, there are several marinas along the river where you can relax.

By car

By car, you can take the A1 and A2 freeways, with national and international connections at certain points along the way. The scenery is magnificent and the diversity of the region makes you forget the hours of driving. After all, Lisbon is much more than a city.
